Great Day for Shamrocks Camogie Club winning U13 County Title

Shamrocks 1.06 Salthill 0.03

After a disappointing defeat to Bothar Na Tra on Oct 1st in the U16 County Final Shamrocks were again to meet this club in the U13 County Final.  It was a closely fought 1st half with Annemarie Martyn and Chloe Kilchreest scoring a point each to Bothar Na Tra's one point leaving the half time score Shamrocks 0-2 Bothar Na Tra 0-1.  The Shamrock girls went out in the second half upping their game to ensure they would not let this title go with 5 of this team forming part of the U16 squad that lost out the week previous.  Annemarie Martyn was first on the score board with a point.  This was followed by points from Chloe Dolphin and Aishling McInerney.  Annemarie then found the back of the net and the final score of the day came from Chloe Dolphin adding another point to her tally.  The final score Shamrock 1-6 Bothar Na Tra 0-1.  All of these girls should be very proud of their individual performances on the day along with their excellent team work.

Scorers: Ann Marie Martyn 1.02, Chloe Kilchreest 0.01, Chloe Dolphin 0.02, Aishling McInerney 0.01.

Minor team one step from glory

Shamrocks 4.13 Salthill 1.01

On Oct 15th Shamrocks Minor Team were also to take on Bothar Na Tra in the Minor County Semi Final.  Again this was to prove a success story for the Club with a significant win for Shamrocks.  With a strong team performance from the girls there were to prove far too strong for the City team with a final score of 4-13 to 1-1 in favour of Shamrocks. Shamrocks will now take on Eyrecourt in the County Final.  A positive result in this game would provide a great end to our Camogie year.  The date and time of this game is yet TBD.

Under 16 final a bridge too far for Shamrock's girls

Shamrocks 2.03 Salthill 4.03

Shamrocks Camogie clubs dream of winning  county Under 16 title ended in disappointment in Kilconieron on Saturday October 1st when they went down to a far stronger Salthill outfit in a well contested final. Shamrocks started well and took the lead early on with a pointed free from Jessica Deely. Deely added a goal before the break to leave the game tied 1.02 each with all to play for.  it was more of the same in the second half and while Shamrocks rallied again and added a Katie Donohue goal to stay in contention. shamrocks kept going but could only register one more point to Salthill's 1.02 and they ran out winners in the end by two goals 2.03 to 4.03. While this was a disappointing defeat they future still looks very good for the club with an Under 13 final to come and also a possible Minor final as well.

Scorers: Jessica Deely 1.02, Katie Donohue 1.00 Ann Marie Martyn 1.00

Shamrock U16 girls through to Co. Final after securing a victory over neighbours Kilconieron

 Shamrocks 1.7 Kilconieron 0-5

On Saturday 24th September Shamrocks played neighbours Kilconieron in their U16 County Semi Final.  Katie Donoghue was first on the score board for Shamrocks with a great passage of play with Rosin Bruton clearing the ball, collected by Jessica Deely and passed to Katie Donoghue to score the first point of the game.  This was then followed by a point for Lisa Callanan.  Jessica Deely the added another excellently taken point for Shamrocks giving them a three point lead.  Kilconieron were then awarded a penalty which could bring the right back into the game.  This was a point however for Kilconieron.  Kilconieron were again on the score board shortly afterwards scoring a point from a free.  Just before half time Jessica Deely was the scorer of another point for Shamrocks driven from an excellent pass from Katie Donoghue giving them a two point lead at half time. In this tightly fought contest Shamrocks knew they would have to lift their game in the second half.  Shamrocks got off to a great start in the second half with a goal from Chloe Dolphin.  Soon after Lisa Callanan's pass to the unmarked Jessica Deely added another point as Jessica converted this to another point.  Kiah Greally again found Jessica who added another point to her tally.  Kiah Greally was then to score the final point of the game giving the Shamrock girls a 1-7 to 0-5 victory to win the game. Overall this was a great performance by all the girls.

Shamrocks Minor Team Secure Co. Semi Final place

Shamrocks 2-3 Mountbellew 1-3

This minor final proved to be an exciting and tightly fought contest.  Shamrocks who has a strong wind on their side in the fist half were first on the score board with a goal from Ciara McDonald.  Jessica Deely was then to find the back of the net for Shamrocks with another goal.  Liam Mellows were then off the mark with a point from play.  Aishling Coen then added to shamrocks tally scoring a point giving Shamrocks a 2 goal advantage at half time.  Shamrocks knew they had it all to do in the second half to maintain their lead as the wind on that evening was very strong and Mountbellew were to have it in their favour in the second half.  It was about 17 minutes into the second half before the first score of that half was secured with a goal to Mountbellew bringing them right back into the game.  Mountbellew then madden another point but Aishling Coen counteracted this with a point for Shamrocks.  Mountbellew then added another point leaving only two points in the difference between the teams.  The Shamrocks girls fought hard against the wind and in the closing minutes of the game a point from Ciara Donoghue secured victory for Shamrocks and securing for them a place in the County Semi Final.

Under 16's lose out to Salthill

Shamrock's 3.04 Salthill 4.09

In round 3 of the U16 Championship Shamrocks were to take on Bothar Na Tra. The game was played on August 11th with home advantage with Bothar Na Tra. On the day Bothar Na Tra proved to be the stronger side.  The Shamrock girls were slow to get into the game and the half time score was 2-7 to 1-2 giving Bothar Na Tra a 1-5 lead.  While the final score also reflected a 1-5 victory for Bothar Na Tra the second half certainly provided a closer fought game with the Shamrock girls picking up the pace.  Shamrocks scoring accuracy was not good on the day missing out on many scoring opportunities to close the score.  The final score Bothar Na Tra 4-9 Shamrocks 3-4.  Shamrocks will now take on Ahascragh on Wed 31st @ 7pm in Kilnadeema in a must win game to secure a place in the County Semi Final.

Under 16 victory a good sign for the future

Shamrocks 7.02 Portumna 2.02

Shamrocks and Portumna meet in the second round of the Under 16 championship in Kilnadeema on Tuesday July 19th. having received a walkover in the opening round against Sylane, a victory would set up Shamrocks for a top two finish in this group.
The game was played in very windy conditions with the home side having advantage first and soon took advantage with some early scores to settle the team. Intermediate star Jessica Deely opened the scoring with a early goal and point from play. Katie Donoghue added another goal after 4 mins after a great run by Rachael Callanan. Kiah Greally added a third goal a minute later before Moya Flanagan shot a fourth goal on 7 mins.  From here to the break Portumna took over and added 1.02 with reply to give them a chance of success in the second half as the half time score read 4.02 to 1.02. Portumna added a goal in the opening minutes of the second half to close the gap. Jessica Deely soon settled her team with another goal after 5 mins. Emir Corcoran added another goal soon after. Kiah Greally added the teams seventh goal after 10 mins as they took control again.  What happened next was bizzare when a Portumna player was injured, the management took exception to the challenge and eventually took their team off the field to leave a very unusual finish to the game with Shamrocks winning 7.02 to 2.02. This was a good performances from a very exciting team who can build into a winning team.

scorers: Jessica Deely 2.01, Kiah Greally 2.00, Katie Donoghue 1.00, Emir Corcoran 1.00, Moya Flanagan 1.00,

Team Lineout: Ann Marie Martyn, Soirse O'Donoghue, Megan Naughton, Lauren Devine, Roisin Bruton, Rachael Callanan, Siobhan O'Connor, Lisa Callanan, Aideen Kennedy, Emir Corcoran, Jessica Deely, Moya Flanagan, Emir Kelly, Kiah Greally, Katie Donoghue.

Feile na nGeal 2011
Feile na nGeal 2011 finally arrived in Galway on Friday June 24th. Shamrocks gave a big welcome to Knockananna club from Wicklow who they were hosting for the weekend. Kilnadeema recently developed pitch was all ready for the big game on Friday afternoon. No body planned the weather though as the worse two days of rain had just arrived. The games still went ahead as laid out.

Shamrocks 1.01 Knockananna 5.03

It was obvious from the start that the Wicklow champions were here to just make up the numbers as a team which reached the semi final last year and with thirteen of the side still available were very strong and focused. They showed their intensions right from the off with Macayla Murphy finding the net  in the opening minute and pointed  soon after. Rachel Byrne added another point before Katie Donoghue got the home crowd going with a great goal after 7 mins. Tara McNally soon pointed but this was as good as it would get as Katie Fay goaled late on the half and another goal was added through Ciara Byrne right on half time. Rachael Byrne added another point in the opening minute of the second half before Sarah Byrne goaled again after 6 mins. Finally they added another goal near the end through Ciara Byrne to round off a great performance. They eventually won the All Ireland title two days later against Galway side Liam Mellows.

Shamrocks 1.02 Mount Leinster Rangers 4.06

It did not get any better on the Saturday  in Leitrim as the Carlow champions Mount Leinster Rangers showed they meant business and still hoped to catch Knockananna  later on in the day. Ann Marie Martyn opened the scoring for shamrocks after 6 mins with a point. Niamh Dwyer soon levelled up the game. it did get better for Shamrocks for a while though as Ashling McInerney goaled  after 11 mins to open up a 3 point lead. Niamh Dwyer soon settled the visitors heads with a goal right on half time to leave the sides level at the break. Rachel Kavanagh soon put the Leinster side in front with a point and Eimear Byrne extended the lead with a free. Rachel Bible then scored a crucial goal after great save by Shannon Ridge in the goals. Scores now flowed through Caoibhe Lawlor and Niamh Byrne goaled as points were added from Eimear Byrne, Niamh Byrne and Rachel Kavanagh to a lone Katie Donoghue pointed free to leave Mount Leinster Rangers well in command at the finish.

Shamrocks 0.03 Ballindereen 2.01

Shamrocks finished off the group by giving everybody on the panel a game and while they lead local Galway rivals Ballindereen at the break by two points, they ran out of steam in the end to end a disappointing but exciting three games in Feile 2011. I'm sure the disappointment will be soon replaced by great memories of the weekend and great friendships made.

Team Lineout: Shannon Ridge, Megan Naughton, Siobhan O'Connor, Emily Mottrom, Amy Howard, Eimear Corcoran, Aliosia Mitchell, Ann Marie Martyn, Kiah Greally, Katie Donoghue, Tara McNally, Aoife Walsh, Laura Charleton, Chloe Dolphin.

Shamrocks out of luck in semi final replay

Shamrocks 0.01 Portumna 0.03

Shamrocks were to take on Portumna in the county Semi Final replay on Wednesday 25th May.   Weather conditions were not ideal but again it  proved difficult to separate these sides. Shamrocks defence were again kept busy throughout this game.  With super performances form Shannon Ridge, Megan Naughton and Eimear Corcoran in backs Portumna were to score only 1 point in the first half. With Annemarie Martyn injured Amy Howard played in  Goal displaying an excellent performance. In the second half with the introduction of Ellen Murphy who provided an excellent pass to Kiah Greally who  converted this to a point Shamrocks were back in the game. Portumna however proved to be the stronger side on the day finding two more point opportunities. While all the Shamrock girls can be proud of their performance on the day this is the end of road the in securing the County title.

Scores: Aoife Walsh 1-0

Team Line Out: Amy Howard, Megan Naughton, Siobhan O'Connor, Emily Mottrom, Shannon Ridge, Eimear Corcoran, Aliosia Mitchell, Tara McNally, Aoife Walsh, Kiah Greally, Laura Charleton, Aishling McInerney, Katelyn Egan, Chloe Dolphin, Megan Murray

Late ... Late goal saves Shamrocks in Under 14 semi final as both teams must meet again

Shamrocks 1.00 Portumna 1.00

Shamrocks under 14 team took on Portumna in the championship semi final which was played in Killimor on Sunday May 22nd.
In the end their was only two scored to report on in the game with no score at all recorded in the opening half. While scores were scarce it did not take away from a very good game between two very even teams. Shamrocks who were forced to lineout without Katie Donohue were always under pressure in the
opening half but defended brilliantly all through, non more so than Ann Maree Martyn in goals and Siobhan O'Connor at full back. Portumna finally made the break through early in the second half when Michelle Mitchell struck to the net.
