Ruthless Cork
demolished Galway by 17 points in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling
Quarter-Final played at Croke park on Sunday July 29th to set up a
semi-final against Leinster champions Dublin. The battle hardened
Rebels with three games already under their belt were far too good
for last year's beaten finalists. Galway were coming cold as always.
For new manager Sean Connolly this was a rude awakening as his team
were never up to the pace of a Cork team which this same Galway team
only lost by three points to in the Under 16 championship two year's
previous. How they got so bad since is hard to know. It is
very much back to the drawing board for the 2004 and 2005 Champions
after this display. Galway started very well and took the lead with
a Keith Killlilea point from a line ball early on. Cork were
level within a minute and never looked back as they lead 5 pts to
one after ten minutes. The Cork tactic of running at the Galway
defence at every opportunity had the tribesmen in trouble all
through. Galway were a hugh disappointment with very few hurling
well. Cork lead at half time 1.12 to 0.05. The pressure on the
Galway defence in the second half was relentless and had no answer
in attack. Galway only added three more points in the second half to
finish up a well beaten team long before the end. The final whistle
came as a relief to everybody involved with the final score line
reading Cork 2.19 Galway 0.08.
