Game 3             Dublin 2.07      Galway 1.08

Galway centre half forward mark Kerins in action against Dublin

Galway's League ambitions for 2007 came off the rails somewhat on Sunday last March 18th when they suffered their first defeat under the new reign of Ger Loughnane against Dublin in Parnell Park. Galway who had won their first two games rather easily in the end after poor first half performances in both cases came up against a very determined Dublin side who had drawn with All-Ireland champions in the first game. In a game that was played in rather poor conditions with Hail, Sleet and snow the order of the day had the elements in the first half and even though they created many scoring chances during that 35 minutes they failed to convert most of them. Both Niall Healy with two and Ger Farragher with another great goal chance both saw their chances brilliantly saved by Dublin Goalie Ger Maguire who was brilliant all through. The half time score told the story as Galway only lead by three points 4 to 1. Dublin sensing success might be their order of the day went after Galway straight away in the early stages of the second half and soon found themselves one point ahead. Galway showed a bit of spirit though and with both substitutes Eugene Cloonan and Alan Kerins having a big impacts they found themselves three points in front. Dublin finished much the stronger and ran out winners by 2 points to complete a memorable victory for them and their first over Galway since 1998. Galway now must regroup for their now very big game against Tipperary on Sunday next.
