Galway's dream of winning the national Hurling League in Ger Loughnane's first year died against Wexford in Nowlan park, Kilkenny on Easter Sunday when they they were out muscled, out thought, and basically out hurled by a very determined Slaney side team. Galway got off to the perfect start with 3 points inside 5 minutes but from their to the end Wexford took over winning almost all the key battles throughout the field. Wexford lead at half time 9 points to 8. Damien Fitzhenry had pulled off two great goal bound shots from Damien Hayes and Kevin Broderick in that half. The second half continued in much the same vain with Wexford staying just in front before the killer goal arrived on 64 minutes from Eoin Quigley who beat Ger Mahan to a high ball and flicked the ball to the net. Galway did try to get back into it from their to the end but just didn't have the finishing power. This defeat certainly gives Ger Loughnane loads of time to get his side ready for the championship, but they will certainly have to improve. |
