Wonderful Galway reign supreme in Omagh

Tyrone 0.08 Galway 0.10

Galway got the better of Tyrone in a match hampered by dreadful weather conditions, prevailing by 0-10 to 0-08 at Healy Park. Liam Sammon's side seemed to cope better with the heavy rain and wind, and inflicted a second successive defeat on the defending All-Ireland champions.Nickey Joyce opened the scoring, and along with Michael Meehan and Joe Bergin, was responsible for Galway dominating the opening period. Tyrone's Conor Gormley saw his part in the action cut short when he was booked for a late tackle, and the Red Hand men seemed to lose some of their defensive cohesion as a result. After torrential rain throughout the first half, the pitch was extremely heavy, and both sides struggled, with the wides count climbing ever higher. Sean Cavanagh had two well taken frees for Tyrone, and last year's outstanding player was nowhere near his best. Mickey Harte tried to inject some life into the Tyrone attack by bringing on Owen Mulligan, but even his contribution was not enough, as Bergin and Padraig Joyce sent over late points to ensure the Tribesmen took the spoils.
