Championship

Big win on opening day

Intermediate team prove much too strong for poor Abbeyknockmoy team

Intermediate championship Group C round one in Athenry on Saturday May 12th

Kilnadeema/Leitrim 2.17  Abbeyknockmoy 0.06

Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Abbeyknockmoy had the honour of opening group C of the Intermediate hurling championship for 2007 when they clashed in Kenny Park, Athenry on a wet Saturday evening 12th May. Both teams meet in the championship at the group stage last year with Kilnadeema/Leitrim proving much too strong for the former senior champions of 19 years previous. The sides also meet in this year's league a few weeks ago in Leitrim with the game much closer this time and Kilnadeema/Leitrim only scrapped home by three points. with Mattie Murphy now in charge of coaching the side and after the disappointment of losing to Killimordaly in the 2006 semi-final, he really had the team fined tuned for the start of the 2007 championship and this was very evident from the off with Kilnadeema/Leitrim on top all over the pitch. Full Forward and captain Eamon Hyland opened the scoring after three minutes with a lovely point. Two minutes later he  lead by example again as he caught a good lineball, turned and struck a second point. Three minutes later we had the first pointed free of the game when Tom Tierney scored after a foul on corner forward Alan Flaherty. With the defence totally on top and three points on the board Kilnadeema/Leitrim had made the perfect start and the lead was increased on 10 minutes with an Eamon Hyland goal after a good move out of defence started by corner back Liam Geargthy and continued on by midfielder Frankie Burke. Eamon with 1-02 had certainly started brilliantly for the side. A Minute later Tom Tierney added another free from all of 80 yards out to open up a 1-04 to no score lead. Even after only eleven minutes Abbeyknockmoy who are coached by former Galway great Tony Keady looked shell-shocked. Tom Tierney added to their troubles only a minute later with another pointed free, his third of the game. Abbey' suffered another blow after 16 minutes when they had to replace their county star John Culkin who was really not fit enough to have started the game in the first place. Tom Tierney was scoring from all distances now and he added a 65 on 17 minutes to put his side 9 points ahead at this stage, and he added another from a free on 19 minutes to really put pressure on the North Galway side. A Minute later we had the first point from play for 13 minutes when Niall Tierney scored a lovely point after a good catch and turn. Abbeyknockmoy's turn to score finally came on 21 minutes when Dermot Molloy scored from play. We wondered would they finally wake up but Tom Tierney soon ended that notion with his first point from play after been set up by a good pass from Sean Burke and brother Niall to leave the score 1-09 to 0-01 after 22 minutes. A glimmer of hope finally arrived for Abbeyknockmoy on 23 and 25 minutes when Dermot Molloy scored two free's to reduce the gap to nine points. The final two scored of the half were swopted by Tom Tierney and Donnie Collins, Tierney's another free after  afoul on Michael Flanagan. The half time whistle soon sounded much to Abbeyknockmoy's relief as they retired to the dressing room 9 points adrift.
Any hopes of an Abbey' comeback early in the second half were soon dashed as Kilnadeema/Leitrim wing forward Sean Burke scored two points on 3 and 6 minutes to put eleven points between the sides. 5 minutes later Tom Tierney took a great pass from Michael Flanagan to score a lovely point and he followed it up a minute later with another point, this time from 65 yards out. Brother Niall scored his second point of the game on 14 minutes to show the score board reading 1.15 to 0.04. A Minute later Midfielder Fergal Nevin, who was having a great game scored a long range point. Abbeyknockmoy had to wait until 23 minutes of the second half for their first score of the half from wing back Tommy Kelly who scored a point to leave his side trailing by 14 points. Kilnadeema/Leitrim then introduced substitutes in Kevin Boyle and Ruairi Conneely before the second goal of the game arrived on 25 minutes when Eamon Hyland delivered a wonderful hand pass to the inrushing Tom Tierney who duly dispatched it to the net  with a low shot. Donnie Collins soon added another point for Abbeyknockmoy before the final point of the game arrived and it fell to corner forward Michael Flanagan. to leave the final score 2.17 to 0.06. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had many stars with Donal Nevin, Liam Geargthy, Pat Deely and Shane Flaherty very good in defence. Fergal Nevin had a stormier in midfield with Tom Tierney, Eamon Hyland and Sean Burke the pick of the forwards. While the result was a great start to the  2007 championship, it must be remembered how bad the opposition were and that titles are not won in May but with the progress made so far their is great hope for the year.

Scorers: Tom Tierney 1.09, Eamon Hyland 1.02, Niall Tierney 0.02, Sean Burke 0.02, Michael Flanagan 0.01, Fergal Nevin 0.01.

Kilbeacanty prove no push over

Intermediate team reach knockout stages after hard earned victory over Kilbeacanty

Intermediate hurling championship Group C round two played in Killimor on Saturday June 2nd
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 2.12  Kilbeacanty  1.12

Kilnadeema/Leitrim Intermediate team qualified for the knockout stages of the championship after a hard earned, but well merited win over a much improved Kilbeacanty side when they clashed in Killimor on Saturday June 2nd. The game which was played on  a very wet evening was a physical battle all through with both clubs anxious to win having won their opening games. The game was only 2 minutes old when Tom Tierney shot a point from a free after missing one a minute earlier. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had made the better start and things got even better on 6 minutes when Michael Flanagan crashed home a goal after a Sean Burke shot had come back off the crossbar and fell into Flanagan's path and the goal resulted. Kilbeacanty were now beginning to put some good passages of play together and they opened their account on 9 mins when County minor star Stephen Lambert scored from  a free. Centre Half Back Noel Carey had started very well for the South Galway side and he soon had their second point from a free over 100 yards out. Three minutes later Sean Burke, who was covering a lot of ground  in the early stages raced through the Kilbeacanty cover to shoot a good point to leave his side ahead 1.02 to 0.02 almost at the midpoint of the first half. We had to wait all of five minutes for another score when Kilnadeema/Leitrim Full Forward Eamon Hyland, who was not having the best of luck with the breaking ball up to this point scored a point after taking a pass from Michael Flanagan who had made a great run through the Kilbeacanty defence. Eamon scored another point a minute later after a great catch and turn. Stephen Lambert replayed with another pointed free on 20 mins before Centre Half Forward Noel Glynn, who was giving David Tierney plenty to worry about got in for a wonderful point. Kilbeacanty were now playing the best hurling of the game so far and after the Kilnadeema/Leitrim defence failed to clear what looked like a simple ball on 25 mins, Stephen Lambert broke away with the ball after he blocked down the clearance to shoot a tremendous goal which gave Mark Herlihy no chance . Tom Tierney steadied the ship though for Kilnadeema/Leitrim with two late pointed free's to bring the half time scoring to an end and leave the scoreboard reading 1.06 to 1.04 in the East Galway sides favour. Both teams would have expected a little more from the lads and this made for a much better second half. Justin Fahey soon gave Kilbeacanty much better hope with the opening point of the second half after he made a great break. Tom Tierney replayed with another pointed free on 3 mins and he soon added another point from play after a great Michael Flanagan run to open up a three point gap. This gap was stretched to 6 points a minute later when Frankie Burke struck a great ball into the Full Forward line which Eamon Hyland read perfectly and soon the Kilnadeema/Leitrim captain had the net rattled with a goal. We were now seeing Eamon at his best as he soon added another point from play to leave the score line reading 2.09 to 1.05. Martin Kerins soon pulled back a point for Kilbeacanty and Stephen Lambert reduced the lead further a min later with a pointed free. Then we had the point of the game when Niall Tierney struck a great point from 65 yards out after taking a great pass from Midfielder Frankie Burke. We now had seven minutes without a score before David Tierney received a heavy challenge which resulted in a free further up the field which brother Tom pointed to open up  a seven point lead. Kilbeacanty did not give up though and had three points in a row from Justin Fahey, Noel Glynn and Stephen Lambert which put them back in contention at only four back. Eamon Hyland soon replayed with another point on 29 mins. Niall Donoghue got another back for Kilbeacanty before Kevin Boyle received a second yellow card and with it a red to finish the game on the sideline. From the resulting free Stephen Lambert point from close in to close the gap to three. Time had run out though on his side and Kilnadeema/Leitrim held on for a good victory on a final score line of 2.12 to 1.12. With only one game left to play against Ahascragh/Fohenagh next week Kilnadeema/Leitrim will be anxious to secure the quarter final spot. It was  a day when the team needed just to grind out a result and there was little room for fancy hurling.

Scorers: Eamon Hyland 1.04, Tom Tierney 0.06, Michael Flanagan 1.00, Niall Tierney 0.01, Sean Burke 0.01.
Team Lineout: Mark Herlihy, Davis Spellman, Kevin Boyle, Liam Geargthy, Patrick Deely, David Tierney, Shane Flaherty, Fergal Nevin, Frankie Burke, Niall Tierney, Tom Tierney, Sean Burke, Michael Flanagan, Eamon Hyland, Alan Flaherty.

Poor game see's Intermediate team qualify for quarter-finals

Intermediate team overcome Ahascragh/Fohenagh with great first half performance

Intermediate hurling championship round three in Ballinasloe on Saturday June 16th
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 3.13   Ahascragh/Fohenagh 0.14

Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Ahascragh/Fohenagh meet in the final round games in group D of the Intermediate hurling championship in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe on Saturday June 16th. The situation was very clear with regard to what the result would mean to the group with a victory the only result that would keep Ahascragh/Fohenagh in the competition instead of Kilbeacanty. Kilnadeema/Leitrim, who had already qualified for the quarter finals just wanted to keep up their winning run. The game was a tough physical battle all through with Ahascragh/Fohenagh finishing the game with fourteen men. The North East Galway club opened the scoring with a point from a free after one minute from Sean Lally. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were quickly into their stride though and after a free taken by Tom Tierney was miss hit, Corner Forward Alan Flaherty was on hand to score the opening goal of the game. A Minute later captain Eamon Hyland scored a great point from near the side line to put his side  a goal ahead. Tom Tierney then scored two points from free's on 9 and 10 minutes before Sean Lally got Ahascragh/Fohenagh second point. On 18 minutes Tom Tierney scored a lovely point from play and a minute later Wing Forward Sean Burke also scored from play to open up a 1.05 to 0.02 lead. Sean Lally got the next two points of the game both from free's to keep Ahascragh/Fohenagh well in the game. Tom Tierney then added another pointed free before brother David who was playing at Midfield scored a lovely long range point after a great pass from Liam Geargthy. With the game still in the balance Kilnadeema/Leitrim really killed off the show in a three minute spell with two brilliant goals, first when Michael Flanagan struck a great ground stroke to the net and then when Tom Tierney hit a  brilliant shot into the roof of the net. In between Kevin Lally of Ahascragh/Fohenagh and Niall Tierney  swopted points. The final score of the half fell to the man who opened the scoring Sean Lally with another free to leave the half time score line reading 3.08  to  0.06. With the difference been eleven points it would need a mighty effort in the second half from Ahascragh/Fohenagh to relive their dream. Like the first half  Ahascragh/Fohenagh opened the scoring in the second as Anthony Griffin scored a brilliant Lineball. Then the game got really over physical with hits been given and taken by both sides. The result at the end of all this was the sending off of Alan Moclair for hitting down on Tom Tierney. This was  a big blow to his side. Anthony Griffin added another point on 7 mins. to close the gap to nine. Tom Tierney opened his sides second half account with  a pointed free. Ahascragh/Fohenagh added two more points from play from Anthony Griffin again and Sean Lally. Alan Flaherty then scored a wonderful point on the run on 19 minutes to leave the score reading 3.11 to 0.13. Michael Flanagan added the next point on 21 minutes. Tom Tierney who was the games top scorer added another point from a free on 23 mins. Michael Reynolds added the final score of the game on 25 minutes, a point from play to leave the final score line reading 3.13 0.14 in Kilnadeema/Leitrim's favour. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were just glad to get this game out of the way and move on to bigger things, even though they would be unhappy with their second half performance been outscored 8pts to 5pts. For Ahascragh/Fohenagh they were just not good enough in the end. Kilnadeema/Leitrim now take a well earned break before coming back for a quarter final against Mellick/Eyrecoart or Moycullen on the 23rd September.

Scorers: Tom Tierney 1.07, Michael Flanagan 1.01, Alan Flaherty 1.01, Sean Burke 0.01, David Tierney 0.01, Eamon Hyland 0.01, Niall Tierney 0.01.

Dramatic finish to Intermediate Quarter final

Danny Burke wonder goal forces replay with Mellick/Eyrecoart as Kilnadeema/Leitrim uses up one of it's nine lives

Intermediate hurling championship quarter final played in Killimor on Sunday September 23rd
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 2.13 Mellick/Eyrecoart 0.19

We were treated to a wonderful game when Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Mellick/Eyrecoart meet in the Quarter final of the Intermediate hurling championship which was played in Killimor on Sunday September 23rd before a very large attendance in dry but windy conditions. Seldom have games involving Kilnadeema/Leitrim ended so dramatically as we witnessed in this Intermediate championship game when Danny Burke scored a wonderful, if controversial goal to save the day for his team. Mellick/Eyrecoart has one last chance to win the game but saw a Niall Lynch free hit the post and come back into play much to the delight of all the Kilnadeema/Leitrim players and Supporters.
Kilnadeema/Leitrim were going into this game untested while Mellick/Eyrecoart had come through a very tough Preliminary quarter final the previous week against Oranmore/Maree which went to extra time before the east Galway side scrapped through  by two points. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were forced to lineout without two of their forwards in Niall Tierney and Michael Regan due to injury.  Mellick/Eyrecoart were first to have use of the breeze but it was Kilnadeema/Leitrim who started the better. The exchanges were hard early on and David Tierney was the first to feel the brunt of this when he was hit very high in the 2nd minute. Mellick/Eyrecoart opened the scoring on 5 minutes when Declan McEvoy shot a point from over 100yards. He was to have a major influence on the game right through out. Tom Tierney who was in brilliant scoring form all through especially from placed balls then shot the equaliser two minutes later from a free. Kilnadeema/Leitrim then got a major boost when corner forward Alan Flaherty got on the end of a long ball to guide it past goalie Damien Howe and hit the net for a tonic goal to put his side ahead 1.01 to 0.01. Damien McDermott, who was very lively all through at corner forward soon shot another Mellick/Eyrecoart point from play. David Tierney then picked up a ball around midfield before soloing up all along the line and shooting a brilliant point to put three between the sides on 9 mins. Niall Lynch who like Tom Tierney was very accurate from placed balls all through got his first of the day a minute later before strong centre forward Rory McGauran shot a great point from play to close the gap to the minimum after 13 minutes. The game was being played at a very fast pace at this stage with play up and down the field. Tom Tierney then shot a wonderful point from play as the first half reached the half way mark leaving the score reading 1.03 to 0.04. Brendan Lucas, who was not as prominent as usual then closed the gap again with a point from play on 18 mins, before Tom Tierney replyed with another pointed free. Four minutes later Mellick/Eyrecoart brought up their goalkeeper to take a long range free and Damien Howe who is well known for for being a long striker of the ball shot between the posts to close the lead to just the one point. Tom Tierney then shot the next two points one from a free and the second a 65 after his initial effort  from a 21 yard free was stopped on the line. Niall Lynch likewise answered with two points of his own both from free's before Rory McGauran levelled up the game for the first time since the start right on half time to leave Mellick/Eyrecoart facing the strong breeze in the second half level on scoreboard 1.06 to 0.09. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had played quiet well in the first half and would have been slight favourites to advance at this stage but games are not won at half time and certainly Mellick/Eyrecoart did not read the script and like Kilnadeema/Leitrim played better against the wind.
Tom Tierney started where he left off in the first half scoring a free after one minute before Niall Lynch scored his first point from play soon after. Niall and Tom swopted points both from free's by the 5th minute before Niall put Mellick/Eyrecoart ahead for the first time since the opening minutes at 1.08 to 0.12 with another free. It was a feature of the game all through how many free's were awarded by referee Christy Browne. Tom Tierney continue the trend soon after with an equalising point again from a free. Declan McEvoy who had by now moved  to wing forward and was causing a lot of problems soon shot Mellick/Eyrecoart ahead again after 12 minutes from a 65. Mellick/Eyrecoart were now getting more and more on top and winning much more possession than in the first half especially in the forwards. Niall Lynch stretched their lead to two a minute later with another free before Noel Kenny put a goal between the sides on 14 mins with a another point from play. Kilnadeema/Leitrim looked in big trouble at this stage but the ever brilliant Tom Tierney soon added two more points from free's to leave just the one in it again after 19 minutes. Noel Kenny soon made it two again with another point from play also on 19 minutes as the full forward line tore the defence ragged. Niall Lynch with his second point from play and centre forward Conor McGauran with his third soon had Mellick/Eyrecoart four ahead and looking very much like winners. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had introduced substitute Danny Burke for Frankie Burke at this stage in the hope of getting on the end of something. Danny's impact was amazing when after settling in for a few minutes he picked up a ball about 21 yards out and half way to the sideline, he looked up and struck a most delightful shot which flew towards the goal and somehow hit something and came back out again. Most people thought it had hit the crossbar but to the amazement of the large crowd the Umpire raised his hand to instruct that the ball had actually struck the back frame of the goals and deflected out again. After a long discussion the referee awarded a goal and Kilnadeema/Leitrim were right back in the game with only 5 minutes to play trailing by one point. Brendan Lucas soon put Mellick/Eyrecoart two up again with a lovely point from near the sideline. Tom Tierney as so often in the past was called on to save the day for his team as first he pointed from a free on 29 minutes and a minute later pointed again this time from play as he was under a lot of pressure to amazingly level up the game again. Surely this was to be it and we would have a draw, but no the drama was not finished just yet as Donal Nevin was adjudged rather harshly to have thrown the ball and so Mellick/Eyrecoart were awarded a free which should have been easy for Niall Lynch but somehow the ball struck the post and stayed out before Kilnadeema/Leitrim cleared their lines and the final whistle sounded to leave the final score reading 2.13 to 0.19 and a replay to look forward to.  For Kilnadeema/Leitrim this game should bring them on a good bit while for Mellick/Eyrecoart they must go to the well one more time to see who will reach the semi-final. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had stars in Mark Herlihy, Kevin Boyle, Liam Geargthy, Donal Nevin, Fergal Nevin in the first half David Tierney at different stages and Tom Tierney from free's mainly. Danny Burke will always be remembered for that goal. Roll on the replay.

Scorers: Tom Tierney 0.12, Alan Flaherty 1.00, Danny Burke 1.00, David Tierney 0.01.

Championship ends in replay defeat

Hugely disappointing for   Kilnadeema/Leitrim as Mellick/Eyrecoart finish the stronger

Intermediate hurling championship Quarter final replay played in Killimor on Saturday September 29th
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 0.11  Mellick/Eyrecoart  0.14

Seldom do replays
follow the same pattern as the drawn game and usually one team puts daylight between them and the opposition but certainly that was not the case in the Intermediate hurling championship Quarter final replay between Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Mellick/Eyrecoart which was played in Killimor on Saturday September 29th. The game was brilliantly contested by two sides very keen on progressing to a semi-final meeting with Padraig Pearses. We even had a free for all at the start of the second half with a lot of players involved from both sides and with no names taken. With very little breeze to content with it was even Stephen from the start. Mellick/Eyrecoart got off to a great start when Rory McGauran shot the opening point from play in the first minute after a poor defensive mistake and their inspirational Goalkeeper Damien Howe soon made it a two point game with a free from over 120 yards, similar to his score in the drawn game. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were very nervous early on and took a while to settle down, It took 8 minutes for Tom Tierney to open their account with a point from play 21 yards out near the sideline. Mellick/Eyrecoart started lively forward Brendan Lucas in at Full Forward and he soon was on the scoreboard with a point from play after he picked up a loose ball in space to leave the scoreboard reading 0.03 to 0.01 after 9 minutes. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were now beginning to get more and more ball into their forwards and soon the scores were tied up at three apiece, first Tom Tierney shot a point from a free before Eamon Hyland won a great ball and gave it to Michael Flanagan who shot a great point, Tom Tierney who was winning some great ball at Full Forward shot Kilnadeema/Leitrim into the lead on 12 minutes with another point from play. Mark Herlihy was soon called on to make a great save when Brendan Lucas slipped passed the full back line before shooting for goal where Mark stood tall and pushed the ball away. 6 minutes followed before Tom Tierney shot his fourth point of the half this time a free to open up a two point gap. For the next seven minutes Niall Lunch played as big part on the scoreboard with three unanswered points, first with a free on 20 minutes followed by two points from play both expertly scored from near the sideline 50yards out to push Mellick/Eyrecoart back in front 6 points to 5. The final two scores of the half were swopted when first Tom Tierney and then Niall Lynch shot points from free's to leave the bare minimum between the sides at the break 0.07 to 0.06 in the East Galway sides favour.
The second half had an amazing start when before any ball was thrown in many players from both sides became involved in a battle all over the field. Eventually Referee Michael Warde and officials from both sides intervened and order was restored. No cards were issued to either side. Mellick/Eyrecoart like in the first half was the first out of the blocks and stretched their lead to two points when Declan McEvoy shot a point from a long range free after one minute. Niall Lynch soon made the difference a goal when he added a point from another free to leave the score board reading 0.09 to 0.06 after 3 mins. From here until the 15th minute we saw the real Kilnadeema/Leitrim team as they shot 5 points without reply to put Mellick/Eyrecoart back on their heels. First Tom Tierney shot a free on 5 mins. before Tom again scored this time from play a minute later after  wonderful work in the build up by Patrick Deely and David Tierney to close the gap to just one point.
Four minutes later Sean Burke levelled the game with a good point from play. Luck seemed to be really with Kilnadeema/Leitrim at this stage as Liam Geargthy scored a wonderful line ball on 12 minutes from the 21yard line. Tom Tierney, who was a scoring treat all through soon put two between the sides with a lovely point from play on 15 minutes, This was to prove to be their last score as they endured 18 minutes of torture and eventual defeat mainly due to the poor scoring treat of the forwards. Mellick/Eyrecoart comeback started on 16 mins when wing back Martin Corcoran scored an inspirational point from play from all of 120 yards. We then had to wait a full 9 mins before Mellick/Eyrecoart finally drew level with a point from Brendan Lucas from play. Niall lynch then pointed them ahead with another point from play, his third of the day. Somehow Mellick/Eyrecoart seemed to own the ball at this stage and it was no surprise when Rory McGauran put them two points ahead on 28mninutes and for good measure substitute mark Dunne put them three ahead almost immediately. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were now in dire straits with only a few minutes to play and they pushed everybody forward in the hope of snatching another goal like the drawn game the previous week but try as they might Mellick/Eyrecoart stood strong and saw out the game with three points to spare as the final score board read 0.14 to 0.11. it was a dejected Kilnadeema/Leitrim team that left the field at the end wondering how they failed to score for the last 18 minutes when they were  totally on top before hand. With only six points scored from play all day it was easy to see why they failed to win even though they stopped Mellick/Eyrecoart from scoring as many as the drawn game this time. Kilnadeema/Leitrim will be disappointed not to have progressed to the semi-final, but somehow over the two games they can have no complaints.

League final place after victory over
Rahoon/Newcastle in semi-final

Intermediate League semi-final played in Ardrahan on Monday Oct 29th
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 4.12  Rahoon/Newcastle  2.12

A Place in the Intermediate League final was up for grabs when Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Rahoon/Newcastle meet in Ardrahan on the bank holiday Monday Oct 29th. Both clubs were still going through the emotions of losing in the championship in recent weeks and found it hard to get interest up for this game at first. Kilnadeema/leitrim were short a good few regulars and so gave a start to a few fringe players who were eager to make an impression for 2008. One of those Eoin Larkin certainly did just that with two goals. He got the first score of the game and his first goal in the very first minute when he very well after David Tierney's shot was blocked down. Tom Tierney soon added a pointed free. County star Tony Og Regan then pointed from play from 100 yards on 5 mins to close the gap. Martin Kelly then added another point from play after seven minutes. Points from brothers Niall and Tom Tierney were then added both from play after 10 mins. David Kelly then scored a point from play from Rahoon/Newcastle before Eoin Larkin added his second goal after a shot from Eamon Hyland hit the cross bar to leave his side ahead 2.03 to 0.03 after 14 minutes. Tom Tierney then added another pointed free before David Kelly crashed home a Rahoon/Newcastle goal. Niall Carr then a point from a free to leave just a goal between the sides. Tony Og Regan reduced that to two points with another point from play soon after. David Tierney, who got through a lot of work at Midfield then sot his first point from play.  Niall Tierney added his second point from play on 26 minutes before Niall Carr kept the city side in touch with another pointed free. David Tierney finished off the scoring in the first half with a second point from play to leave the scoreboard reading 2.07 to 1.05 at half time. Interestingly the referee had the score reading 2.08 to 1.06 which was incorrect. Niall Carr reduces the lead with another free soon after half time before Mark Herlihy was called upon to make a brilliant save for Kilnadeema/Leitrim. Seamus Coy soon had only a goal between the sides again with another point from play. Tom Tierney with a point from play eventually got off the mark in the second half after 7 mins. A Minute later the game took a big turn for the east Galway side with a critical goal from Eoin O'Toole after taking a great pass from Eamon Hyland. Brian Cloherty had a point back for Rahoon/Newcastle a minute later to leave six points between the sides. Jason Collins with a wonderful point and David Tierney with his third from play soon put eight points between the sides after 13 minutes. Suddenly Rahoon/Newcastle took over and outscored Kilnadeema/Leitrim by 1.02 to no score. Paul Kelly with a point followed by a goal from Martin Kelly after 20 minutes. Tony Og Regan soon added another and suddenly we were back to a three point game. Points from David and Tom Tierney soon settled down Kilnadeema/leitrim again after 25 minutes. Tom got injured though while he was scoring which resulted in he leaving the field to be replaced by the teams only substitute Michael Geargthy. Then we had a penalty for the city side which was put over the bar by Niall Carr and David Kelly added another point to leave just three points in it again with time almost up. The final score fell fittingly to David Tierney whose attempted point from a free went all the way to the net to leave the final score in a very enjoyable game 4.12 to 2.12.Kilnadeema/Leitrim now go on to contest the final with Moycullen and give themselves a chance of picking up some silverware in 2007 at last.
