Under 14 team qualify for semi-final after victory over Gort
Under 14 championship Quarter Final played in Castledaly on Monday May 14th

Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Gort clashed in the
quarter final of the Under 14 championship at wet and windy
Castledaly on Monday may 14th. Having both finished second in their
groups and having had many close battles in recent years at Under 12
and Under 14, this was always going to be a close fought game and so
it turned out to be as scores proved very hard to get in both
half's. Kilnadeema/Leitrim knew their biggest problem was to keep
tabs on the brilliant Gort centre half forward Gerry Donoghue and
this proved to be the story right throughout the game.
Kilnadeema/Leitrim had wind advantage first and made a very slow
start particularly on the score board where a lot of chances were
created but very few converted. Shane lawless opened the scoring
after only one minute with a brilliant point after a great run up
the sideline. It took nine minutes for another score to come
and this time it was worth waiting for as Shane Lawless, who was
tormenting Gort right through out broke away from his marker again
and hit off on another great solo run before hitting a great low
past the goalie into the net to open up a four point lead. Gort were
now beginning to get more possession up the field and they opened
their account with a Gerry Donoghue point from play on 12 minutes.
He added another two from free's on 19 and 20 minutes to close the
gap to just a point 1.01 to 0.03. Shane lawless though had the
last say on the score board when he pointed on 21 minutes to leave
just two points between the sides at the break. We wondered would it
be enough. |
