Good performance as Intermediate team get first league points of the season against Mellick/Eyrecoart

Kilnadeema/leitrim Intermediate team got the perfect workout for their up coming League final and Championship preliminary quarter final when they took on Mellick/Eyrecoart in the League in Clonfert on Sunday August 23rd.In a game that was fiercely contested all through, Kilnadeema/Leitrim always seemed to have the upper hand and looked much sharper for this time of the the year. Liam Geargthy operating in a new roll of centre half forward this year opened the scoring with a point from play after 3 mins. Niall Lynch, who played for the Galway under 21 team against Kilkenny the previous evening soon levelled up matters with a free. Liam Geargthy who was playing really well at this stage soon put Kilnadeema/Leitrim back in front before Niall Lynch replyed with two point, one from play to put the home side in front for the only time in the game. Tom Tierney who was deadly accurate from free's as usual levelled the game again  on 15 minutes with a 65, before he scored the next three points, all from free's by 26 minutes. Noel Kenny pulled a point back for Mellick/Eyrecoart before Tom Tierney had the final score of the half, another free to leave it 0.07 to 0.04 at the break. Michael Regan opened the scoring in the second half with a point from play before Declan McEvoy replyed for Eyrecoart. Tom Tierney on five minutes shot his first point from play. Niall Lynch and Tierney again swopted point from free's by 10 minutes. David Tierney soon stretched the lead of his side to five with a point from play. Tom with two more points from free's and another David Tierney point from play had eight between the sides by the midway point of the half. Michael Flanagan in his new roll of midfield was enjoying plenty of possession and he added a brilliant point a minute later. Mellick/Eyrecoart then introduced underage star Martin Corcoran and he went on to play a major roll to the finish scoring three points from play. Another point from Sean McCormack had Mellick Eyrecoart closing the gap to six. David Tierney had the final say as he scored his third point from play to leave the final score 0.16 to 0.10.
