Quarter final place secure for Minors after victory over Abbeyknockmoy

Kilnadeema/Leitrim 0.20  Abbeyknockmoy 2.06

With a big push to complete the Minor championship
group, Kilnadeema/Leitrim played their second of three games in eight days when they took on Abbeyknockmoy in Athenry on sat July 5th. The team were in good spirits after their hard earned win over Mellick/Eyrecoart the previous Wednesday, Kilnadeema/Leitrim found Abbeyknockmoy an equally tough nut to crack and lead by the minimum at the break 0.10 to 2.03. The disappointing thing for the team at half time was the conceding of two goals in that first half, both coming from the full forward. Points from play from Dara Herlihy, Colm Kelly, and Shane Lawless, plus very good free taking from Dara keep Kilnadeema/Leitrim's noses in front. The second half was equally as hard with some heavy challenges going in. For Abbeyknockmoy it was disappointing that they only scored three points in that second half. Substitute Michael Donoghue got two good points from play and Padraig Stapleton, who had a very good game shot two long range free's to see out the game on a final scoreline of 0.20 to 2.06. It was a notable achievement by Dara Herlihy that he scored fourteen points in the game which continues his super form so far in 2008. The result guaranteed Kilnadeema/leitrim a place in the Quarter finals with joint leaders Ardrahan who they meet on Wednesday next.
