Craughwell prove just too strong in Under 14 championship

Craughwell 1.07 Kilnadeema/Leitrim 1.04
Kilnadeema/Leitrim under 14 team
came crashing back down to earth on Monday evening last in Craughwell, when after enjoying a famous victory over Castlegar the previous week found home side Craughwell just too hot to handle, even though there was only one point between the sides with thirteen minutes to play. The game was played in very windy and wet condititions with the pitch also very heavy. Craughwell were first to avail of the elements and soon stamped the authority all over the game with a flying start, first when Brendan Gallagher shot over in the first minute and then when there man of the match John Martin scored another point from play. Brian Molloy soon had Kilnadeema/Leitrim off the mark with a point from a free after good work by Martin O'Brien in winning the free. The first real turning point of the game arrived on 10 minutes when corner forward Brendan Gallagher rattled the back of Stephen Roche's net to put the home side 1.02 to 0.01 up. John Martin with a free soon extended their lead and he added another from play a minute later. He was causing Kilnadeema/leitrim a lot of problems at this stage. The second big talking point of the first half was the brilliant save made by the Craughwell goalkeeper Conor Farrell from a goal bound shot by Brian Molloy. Cillian Dowling keep his side in the game with a point from play on 18 minutes to leave the half time score reading 1.04 to 0.02.With the strong breeze to come Kilnadeema/leitrim were still very much in this contest and they certainly came out all guns blazing and soon a point from a free from Ryan Murray had the gap reduced. The game took a dramatic turn on 7 minutes when Brian Molloy scrambled home a goal after a goalmouth melee. The gap was now down to one point and looking very good for the visitors. In fairness to Craughwell they really stood up and were counted from here on though and out scored their opponents by 3 points to one at the finish. John Martin responded with a point from a free and Brian Dolan added another on 11 minutes. Five minutes later Ryan Murray, who was Kilnadeema/Leitrim's best player added a wonderful point from an over head pull. Craughwell who were now hanging on got the assurance point on 19 minutes when midfielder Padraig Tobin scored a great point after  a great run to leave the final score line 1.07 to 1.04. This was a tough game for both sides and will stand to them later in the competition.
