Under 14 team defeat holders Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry with powerful display

Kilnadeema/Leitrim 2.07 Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry 0.02

Defending Under 14 Feile na nGeal champions Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry
were expected to be a strong force again in the 2008 championship and were expected to be very strong opponents for Kilnadeema/Leitrim when they meet in Tynagh on Monday April 14th. Having already been defeated by Craughwell earlier in the group, Kilnadeema/leitrim needed a won to finish up as high up in the table as possible to avoid a tough quarter final draw. To everybody's amazement this turned out to be a very one sided game with Kilnadeema/Leitrim dominating from start to almost the finish.  Tynagh/abbey-Duniry showed none of the class and skill they had demonstrated in earlier games. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had the breeze in the first half and were off the mark very quickly with a brilliant goal by man of the match Brain Molloy, who collected a long Dara O'Donoghue delivery before taking on the home defence and blasting the ball past a helpless goalkeeper. Centre Half Forward Martin O'Brien followed this up with a mighty point from out near the sideline. Kilnadeema/Leitrim were playing really well at this early stage and this continued five minutes alter when Tony Molloy shot a lovely point after been set up by Cillian Dowling to open up a five point lead. Brian Molloy then scored a classy point after cutting in from near the corner flag and shooting over from a tight angle. probably the point of the half was scored shortly after when midfielder Jacques Chahin raced through and shot a wonderful point on the run from all of 50 yards to leave the score now reading 1.04 to no score after 11 minutes. Brian Molloy, who was causing the Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry defence all kinds of problems soon added another point, again from play. Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry were creating very little and missed an easy free on 18 minutes to open their account. The final score of the half arrived on 20 minutes from who else but the scoring star Brian Molloy again from play over 40 yards out. to leave the half time score at 1.06 to 0.00. Kilnadeema/Leitrim had done brilliantly so far, but were now facing the breeze and I'm sure a backlash from their opponents, but never materialised as straight away from the throw in Cillian Dowling was fouled in front of goal and up stepped Brian Molloy to blast the 21 to the net and all but end the contest. Things might have been different had the Kilnadeema/Leitrim defence not stopped a pile driver from Shane Flynn shortly before this. Flynn did add a point from a free immediately after before the goal arrived. Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry piled on a lot of pressure for the next 15 minutes, but their only reward was a Paul Killeen point from a free after Shane Flynn had missed a few scorable free's before hand. It was only fitting that Brian Molloy had the final score of the game , a free on 17 minutes after playing his best ever game for the club. The final whistle was greeted with great joy and surprise on a final scoreline of 2.07 to 0.02. This result changes the group completely and see's Kilnadeema/Leitrim sitting proudly on top of Group A of Feile na nGeal at the moment. Who would have ever though this was possible. With Liam Mellows to come next, that is where they will hope to stay.
