Kilnadeema/Leitrim 3.09 Liam Mellows 1.03
The final games in the group saw
Kilnadeema/Leitrim entertain city big guns Liam
Mellows
in Leitrim on
Monday April 21st. With both teams having
contrasting fortunes up to now in the
championship, it was expected that the home side
would be too strong for their opponents, and so
it turned out that way, even if the game had a
dead feel to it all through. Kilnadeema/Leitrim
opened the scoring after only a minute when full
forward Eoin Morrissey pointed after taking a
long pass from Martin O'Brien. Four minutes
later Brian Molloy double the lead
with a pointed free. Liam Mellows were now very
competitive and soon replyed with a pointed free
by there centre half back ( there best player
all through). Eoin Morrissey who started off
very impressively at full forward soon added his
second point from play. 14 minutes had passed
when Martin O'Brien scored a great point from
over 40 yards out. Brian Molloy then added a
brilliant point from a free from all of 60 yards
out. The final score of the half was a very
significant one as Tommy Mottrom was at the end
of a ball that bounced around the square to
crash home a vital goal. The half time whistle
sounded with the score board reading 1.05 to
0.01. The second half was nearly all
Kilnadeema/Leitrim as they pilled on the scores.
Brian Molloy shot his third point of the game
after a minute, this time from play. Brian added
another 3 minutes later after been set up by
Eoin Morrissey. Liam Kelly was then introduced
as a substitute and he soon got on the
scoreboard with a second goal after he finished
a great run by Cillian Dowling. Liam Mellows
shot only their second point of the half again
from a free on 8 minutes. Brian Molloy, who had
another great game soon killed off the game
completely with another goal, this one a
brilliant finish after been set up by Eoin
Morrissey again to leave his side ahead 3.07 to
0.02 after 11 minutes. Cillian Dowling then
really came into his own and shot two good
points from play. Kilnadeema/Leitrim then
introduced three more substitutes. Liam Mellows
finally got some reward for their long trip to
Leitrim when they goaled on 19 minutes and
finished with another point from a free to leave
the final score 3.09 to 1.03. While this was a
workman like performance, it will not be near
good enough to win a quarter final next week
against Clarenbridge or Kilconieron.
