Under 12
team reach semi final for second year in a row
after seeing off Clarenbridge
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 2.03 Clarenbridge 1.00
Kilnadeema/leitrim under age hurling club is certainly on a high these days competing in A championships in Under 12 and Under 14 for the first time ever in the last two years and will be in the top grade of hurling at Under 16 and Minor over the next few years to really put the club up there with the best in the county. Playing in the A championship is one thing, but to qualify for quarter finals and semi finals each year is something special. After the high of reaching the Under 12 semi final in 2007, hopes for the same were not so high this year, but under the management of Des Roche, they achieved just that on Saturday June 28th when they comprehensively defeated Clarenbridge in Kilconieron. Having come second to Loughrea in their group, hopes were high for Clarenbridge to do well, just as their Under 14 Feile team had done, but they never got to the pace of the game. The game never reached any great heights with the first twelve minutes producing no scores. Liam Kelly, Kilnadeema/Leitrim's main score getter finally got going when he scored from play after twelve minutes to open the scoring. Four minutes later, Kelly repeated the act with another point from play. We had no more scores before half time as the score read 0.02 to 0.0. It was thought Clarenbridge would put up a better fight in the second half, but that was not to be. Liam Kelly opened the scoring in the second half with a point from a free on 5 mins. The really big break came two minutes later when Daniel Mottrom delivered a great pass to Liam Kelly, who rounded the goalie to score the games first goal. Clarenbridge reacted to this a few minutes later with a goal of their own when corner forward Richie O'Brien collected a long free to pull a goal back. Any hopes of a Clarenbridge comeback was ended by Jack Kenny on 18 minutes when he kicked home a second goal to close out the scoring and give us a final score of 2.03 to 1.00. This was a great result for the club, the team management and the players as they now prepare for a semi final against neighbours Loughrea . Maybe their can be one more big result in this team yet.
