Under 12 championship semi-final
Heartbreak for Under 12 team as Loughrea come from behind to win late in Semi
final
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 1.01 Loughrea 1.05
Big time under age hurling
arrived for the second time in two years for Kilnadeema/Leitrim Under 12 team
when they meet near neighbours and great rivals
Loughrea in the county A semi final in Killimor on Tuesday July 15th. Loughrea
were expected to be much too strong, but with five minutes remaining it was
Kilnadeema/Leitrim who lead by one point and looking like possible winners.
Loughrea, powered their way to victory in the end by four points, but only after
a mighty scare. On a bright sunny evening with a strongest breeze, Loughrea
availed of the elements first, but it was Kilnadeema/Leitrim who lead first when
Liam Kelly pointed early on from a free. Loughrea, who already have won the
school's title with all of this team soon were level through Enda Keary with a
point from play. Gearoid Loughnane then shot two points from free's to put
Loughrea two in front. With the first half nearly up Kilnadeema/Leitrim were
awarded a free 30 mtr's out which Liam Kelly duly dispatched to the Loughrea net
to leave his team leading at the break 1.01 to 0.03. Kilnadeema/leitrim
continued in the second half with a extra man back in defence expertly played by
Mickey Lynch all through. Loughrea with most of the play kept pressing all
through were eventually rewarded when Gearoid Loughnane scored a point
from a free to level up the game on 15 mins. We wondered was the game heading
for a replay when Loughrea hit for one goal and a point. First Enda Keary shot
over a point for the lead before goalie James Donnellan made a good save only
for Gearoid Loughnane to score the rebound for a winning goal. The final whistle
sounded soon after on a final scoreline of 1.05 to 1.01. While this was a
disappointing end to the game and season for this young team, they can take
great heart from the year and better times lay ahead. also well done to the
management of Des Roche, Sean Connor Joe Kenny and John Broderick.
