Under 12 team make great start with one point victory over Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry
|
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 4.01 Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry 3.03 The first real signs that Summer has arrived is when the Under 12 championship kicks into action and even though it was a far from Summer's evening with a biting coal wind Kilnadeema/Leitrim and Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry served up a brilliant opening round in the A Championship at Tynagh on Monday may 26th. A game which had plenty of goals went right down to the wire before Kilnadeema/Leitrim came out on the right side of a one point victory. Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry played with the strong breeze in the first half and soon were a point in front through a Niall Maloney point from play. Johnny Conroy then made it two with a second point from play after 5 mins. The first of seven goals arrived a minute later when Evan Dowling got on the end of a loose ball to crack home a vital score for Kilnadeema/Leitrim. The score involved great build up play from Daniel Mottrom and Jack Kenny. Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry soon replied with a very good goal of there own when Niall Maloney gave James Donnellan no chance in the goal to put Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry back in front. Then we had a brilliant save by Arran O'Halloran the Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry goalie from a Daniel Mottrom goal bound shot. Almost immediately Shane Fahy at corner forward followed up with a a goal to put Kilnadeema/Leitrim back in front 2.0 to 1.02. Niall Maloney then replied with another point from play before centre back Stephen Roche pointed a free from close in right on the stroke of half time to leave Kilnadeema/Leitrim leading by 2.01 to 1.03 at the break. Kilnadeema/Leitrim got the vital break early in the second half when after sustained pressure Sean Callagy squeezed home a crucial goal to open up a four point gap. We had to wait another 14 minutes before we had another score and a vital goal it was for Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry when substitute Johnny McLoughlin crashed home a goal past James Donnellan to leave just a point in it again and now it was anybody's game. Kilnadeema/Leitrim responded very quickly when Jack Kenny hit a high ball in over the goalkeeper's head for a very important goal. Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry did not give up the ghost though and scored another goal on 20 minutes through Rory Cunningham to leave us with a nail biting finish before the referee ended it all on a final score line of 4.01 to 3.03. This was a great advert for Under 12 hurling and gives Kilnadeema/leitrim a good chance of making the quarter finals, while Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry will prove very hard to beat for the other teams in the group.
