Kilnadeema/Leitrim 2.18 Michael Cusack's 0.15

The newly formed Michael Cusack's (formally Beagh and Kilbeacanty) meet for the first time in championship hurling in the Under 16 group game in Kilbeacanty on Wednesday July 23rd. With two players missing from the first fifteen, Kilnadeema/Leitrim got off to the perfect start when Dara Herlihy goaled in the first minute. Michael Cusack's were physically very strong and soon started to dominate all over the field. Adrian Tuohy, who had a very good game at midfield for the home side soon shot over two points, one from play. Alvin Mitchell who was equally brilliant at midfield soon scored his first point of the day from play. Tommy McKeon, who was an extremely lively corner forward then shot over a point on 11 minutes and added another three minutes later  to level up the game. Ryan Murray who started quietly soon got going and shot the first of his four points on 12 mins. Alvin Mitchell who was causing all kinds of problems for Michael Cusack's, running at them at every opportunity then shot over two points in succession from play to increase the lead to three. Cillian Dowling and Dara soon added to the scoreline with a point each from play as Kilnadeema/leitrim finally began to find their rhythm. Adrian Tuohy with a point from a free replied for Cusack's before Dara Herlihy scored a wonderful point with an overhead pull. The first half scoring was complete on thirty minutes when Ryan Murray pull on a great ball which went over the bar to leave the half time score 1.08 to 0.05.Kilnadeema/Leitrim knew they hadn't played well in that first half and upped the performance straight after halftime. Ryan Murray shot over his third point straightaway before Alvin Mitchell hit a long ball towards goal which went all the way to the net passed a stunned goalie. James Conway with a point from play and a Dara Herlihy free left twelve points between the sides after 4 mins. Adrian Tuohy with a point from a free got Michael Cusack's off the mark two minutes later before  Alvin Mitchell scored his fourth point  from play. Niall Haverty then got in on the act with a lovely point on the run and centre half back Martin Costello did likewise with a long range effort to increase the lead. Under 14 players Ryan Murray and Cillian Dowling both added a point each from play (this was six between them) to leave the score reading 2.16 to 0.06 after twelve minutes. Brendan Burke then scored a point for Cusack's and this was the start of a big comeback for the south Galway side as the scored the next five points, first a point from play from Tommy McKeon and then four in a row from Adrian Tuohy, three from free's. Dara Herlihy with a point from a 65 settled down the team again after 26 minutes. Niall Haverty added to the score with  a point from play before Michael Cusack's finished on a high with three Adrian Tuohy points, two of which came from play to leave the final score line reading 2.18 to 0.15. While the victory was impressive in many ways especially as most of the scores came from play, the team will be disappointed with all the scored they conceded.
